If the lid is on, the water (or other whatever) will stay in the bottle and therefore make it heavy and dangerous (hurts alot), with the lid of the content of the bottle will fly out, and the bottle would just be a harmless piece of plastic (doesn't hurt at all)... I think that's the reason anyway.

they take away our bottles and pour the contents into a plastic cup in aus.kinda useless. a plastic cup would hurt just as much as a plastic bottle?weird huh

I was wondering about the bottle thing too.. I asked once and they said that was because people throw with bottles. If the lid/t (??) is off they're not that heavy and dangerous because all the content will fall out the bottle befor it hits something ^^

put the bottle lid in your pocket, and its not because of the bottle being used as a weapon, i think, mind you the bottle filled with plaster, or pebbles, would be a weapon
